Hockey Program
The UAA NCAS Hockey program forms an underpinning program for the Hockey NSW (HNSW) Athlete Acceleration Program (AAP) that can see athletes progress through the athlete pathway and be given the support they need to progress to the next level.
Hockey NSW provides support and endorsement for the NCAS program to develop and support pre-elite Hockey Players.
The Hockey Program is heavily supported by Underwriting Agencies Australia (UAA) and we thank them for their ongoing support of Regional Academies of Sport.
The purpose of the hockey program is to:
- Provide a pre-elite environment for the athletes to develop
- Give athletes access to quality services and programs as they progress through the HNSW pathway
- Prepare athletes for the upcoming Hockey season
- Provide a coach excellence program for regional coaches with the support of HNSW Regional Coaching Coordinator (RCC) Network
- Provide umpire education
Supporting the Academy program are the regional hockey associations of Port Macquarie/Hastings Hockey Association, Grafton Hockey Association, Far North Coast Hockey Association, and Hockey Coffs Coast.
For the 2022-23 program, a squad of 18 males and 18 females (including 2 male and 2 female goal keepers), aged 16 to 18 years in 2022 (born 2005 – 2007) will be selected across the North Coast region, through an application and trial process.
The NCAS Hockey program may involve single- and two-day weekend training camps, local training sessions, strength & conditioning training, and the Athlete Education Program. The program will culminate at the 2023 Academy Games in Wagga Wagga. We expect the program to run from October 2022 to April 2023.
Hockey Umpire Program
The NCAS hockey umpire program forms an underpinning development program for the HockeyEd Official Development Pathway, that can see umpires progress through the pathway and be given the support they need to achieve the next level. Members of the squad will be exposed to expert coaching services and sport specific education.
The 2022-23 program will run in conjunction with the Hockey program. The program will have an emphasis on umpires looking to progress to HockeyEd Lv. 1, providing greater skills development, strength and conditioning support and physical preparation with locally based sessions throughout the North Coast, leading into the Academy Games in April 2023, hosted by Southern Sports Academy in Wagga Wagga.
Applications are CLOSED for NCAS Hockey 2022-23
