We are deeply saddened to share the news of Steve Ryan’s passing.
Steve was a great example of a student of the game, a self-proclaimed golf nerd who was always learning and humble in his knowledge. Most of us will have known Steve through his time running the Pro Shop at Mullumbimby Golf Club, teaching the game at local Far North Coast schools and as an Assistant Coach of the North Coast Academy of Sport Golf Development Program. With a great sense of humour and quiet patience, Steve worked brilliantly alongside regional youth.
Sadly, Steve was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and did all he could to make the most of his time. This included coaching the NCAS Golf Development Squads whilst unwell and NCAS thanks him for his guidance and effort. He did not let MND beat him. Steve will be greatly missed by the wider NCAS Golf and Golf Development team, and we pass on our condolences to his wife Alison and their family.
Taking words from Chris Graham, NCAS Golf Development Head Coach: “He never sought recognition yet left a lasting impact on everyone he met. His enthusiasm for golf – and for life – was inspiring. He gave his time freely, always willing to help, teach, or simply listen. The golf community in our region has lost a true gentleman…”
On behalf of NCAS, thanks for everything Steve.
