The North Coast Academy of Sport (NCAS) UAA program provides high performance coaching and training opportunities to up-skill athletes and assist them in progressing to higher representation within the sport of hockey. NCAS and the Regional Academy of Sport (RAS) network in NSW has had a long standing partnership with Hockey NSW playing a vital role in the Hockey NSW pathway by identifying, monitoring and developing the skills of young hockey players. This program is proudly sponsored by Underwriting Agencies Australia (UAA).

The UAA NCAS Hockey Program is a program endorsed by Hockey NSW to deliver a pathway program for U16s and U18s. The program includes athletes in the Hockey NSW Pathways & Performance Program and selected athletes through local trials.

The following benefits will apply to those selected in the program:

  • Prepare athletes for the upcoming Hockey season, including State and National tournaments.
  • A minimum of 30 hrs of On-Field Hockey Sessions
  • Access to recommended NCAS providers such as Physiotherapy
  • Fitness Testing and Review, following with face to face Strength and Conditioning sessions
  • Access to a Network of Specialised Coaches
  • Athlete Education in Topics such as Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Motivation, Leadership and Load Management

To be eligible for NCAS selection, the athlete must meet the following criteria:

 

  1. Be turning 15-18 years of age in 2026 (U16 & U18 age groups)
  2. Be a current registered member of a Hockey NSW affiliated Association as at July 1st, 2025.
  3. Reside in the North Coast region within the defined Local Government boundaries of the following Council areas: Tweed, Byron, Lismore, Ballina, Kyogle, Richmond River, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Nambucca, Kempsey and Port Macquarie-Hastings.
  4. Complete and submit an online application form.
  5. Be available to attend possible selection trials if all other selection criteria are met.
  • Athletes will be selected into a program via two ways:
    • Invitation to athletes identified via the HNSW Talent Identification or Selection Panels.
    • A nomination & trial process overseen by NCAS.

Trials for the 25/25 NCAS Hockey Porgram will be held on Sunday the 9th of November 10:30-2:00 at Grafton Hockey Association
