The North Coast Academy of Sport is thrilled to announce the granting of a Lifetime Membership to Dr Greg Downes, celebrating his remarkable dedication and positive influence on the academy and its mission and values.
Dr Greg Downes has been an essential part of NCAS for over 20 years, actively contributing and leading as both a board member and as chairmen of the board. His passion for fostering junior athletes and their talents has left an indelible mark on the academy.
Over the years, Dr Greg Downes has played key roles, as a member of the board, consistently showing dedication to fostering excellence in sports throughout multiple different generations of athletes. Notably, he became head of the board and successfully navigated NCAS through the difficult Covid Period. Programs such as the UAA Indigenous talent program and the developments of the strength and conditioning and education workshops have all begun under Dr Greg Downes and has enhanced the academy’s reputation for athlete development.
The decision to grant Lifetime Membership is a recognition of Dr Greg Downes’ exceptional achievements. Under his leadership, the academy has witnessed, increased athlete participation, new sporting programs’, increased athlete alumni success and improved Academy performance outcomes, solidifying its status as the premier institution for athletic development in the North Coast region.
Outside of NCAS Dr Greg Downes has always had a connection to the sporting world, Dr Downes has written two books on the history of the Matilda’s the Australian women’s soccer team and has been involved in multiple sporting codes across his life. Dr Greg Downe’s also spent much of his career as a university lecturer teaching classes in both business and sports science sectors, teaching many people who would be associated with the Academy.
The official announcement of the Lifetime Membership occurred at the NCAS Academy Awards and in a private ceremony with NCAS Board and Staff. Dr Greg Downes became just NCAS’ 5th life member and the honor acknowledges Dr Greg Downes for his significant contributions and express gratitude for his lasting commitment.
